The Mamaroneck Playhouse at 238 Mamaroneck Ave., which has been closed since 2015, is expected to reopen later this year.
Blue Zees Real Estate, a New York City-based developer, bought the playhouse from Bow Tie Cinemas for $2 million this month, according to Westchester County property records.
The company plans to renovate the building and reopen it by the fall as a six-screen theater, according to this report by LoHud.com.
"This will allow our kids to see movies in their hometown," said Mayor Thomas Murphy. "It's terrific."
Mamaroneck's is the second historic playhouse rescued in the past year.
The Larchmont Playhouse closed in September 2016 after iBow Tie Cinemas did not renew its lease at 1975 Palmer Ave. Last year, New York City developer Charles Cohen purchased the Larchmont cinema.
